Maya Angelou is a world-renowned poet who's poems have been celebrated for many years. The Poem "Alone" by Maya Angelou is a poem that's underlying main idea is that nobody can survive if they are alone. A certain stanza is repeated every other paragraph in this poem. The stanza is: "Alone, all alone /Nobody, but nobody/ Can make it out here alone." The theme of this poem is no matter how good anybodies life seems to be, nobody can make it alone.
Examples of this theme in this poem is in mainly the third but also first stanza. The speaker is introduced in the first stanza. The speaker describes themselves as being always thirsty, and their bread as hard a stone. Because of all this, it can be inferred that the speaker of the poem is not well off. Then, in the third stanza, the speaker describes a millionaire's life. But the speaker also says that the millionaires' are "With money they can't use/ Their wives run round like banshees/ Their children sing the blues." When the speaker says that millionaires' are "With money they can't use," the speaker is saying that the millionaire has nothing left to use his money on. He no longer wants anybody or anything anymore, so therefore, he is alone. The lines "Their wives run round like banshees/ Their children sing the blues," also show that he is alone. Since "feeling blue" means feeling sad, it is clear that the millionaire's children are unhappy. And "Their wives run round like banshees," do not show the happiest outlook either. So while the millionaire has a family, he is still alone. In the third stanza, it also says that millionaires"got expensive doctors/ To cure their hearts of stone." Their hearts were stone just as the speaker's bread was stone. They can no longer feel what they need to feel so they can feel like they are not alone. But the thing is though, they are.
In conclusion, the theme of this poem is no matter how good anybodies life seems to be, nobody can make it alone. This can extend into life, in that sense that nobody should have to make it alone. If someone chooses to be alone, that is a different story. There is always somebody, even when it may not seem like it.
I like that you had a lot of text evidence to back up your thesis. You also unpacked it to add more elaboration which is great.
